A sports club for blind and partially sighted children and young people, every Saturday at Cwmbran Stadium or Llantarnam School 1.00pm -3.30pm

The club has been set up by national charity Action for Blind People and is funded by the Millennium Stadium Charitable Trust and Awards for All.

It is part of a network of 28 Actionnaires clubs across the UK, and the first club the charity has launched in Wales.

The Gwent Actionnaires club will meet weekly and is open to all blind and partially sighted children, along with their siblings and friends. Rugby star Gareth Maule of the Newport Gwent Dragons (pictured left) helped launch the club in January 2008.

Dragons team manager Jim McCreedy said: "All children should be able to enjoy sport, whatever their ability. This is a wonderful initiative, and one which the Newport Gwent Dragons are delighted to support."

Nicky Malson, Sports Development Officer for Action for Blind People, said Gwent Actionnaires offers a wide range of opportunities to local visually impaired children.

"From judo to football, athletics to volleyball, the club will strive to develop children's physical skills and fitness, along with their confidence and social skills. Gwent Actionnaires has had incredible support from Millennium Stadium Charitable Trust, Awards for All and Gwent VI services to whom we are very grateful. I'm particularly excited as this is the first Actionnaires club to open in Wales, and we're looking forward to exploring opportunities in other parts of the country."

Please call before attending sessions to check what facility is being used for that week.
